A Long Walk to Water

6th Grade Literacies | Reading Unit

The 6th-grade literacy class has been engaged in the reading of A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park. Throughout the past few weeks, students have been exploring and expanding various reading comprehension skills and as well as deepening their understanding of various global issues discussed in the book such as access to clean water, the struggle of refugees, the divisiveness of war, and gender inequality.

Students also participated in Socrative Literature Circles to help them further construct meaning from the text.  Literature circles provide an opportunity for students to exercise their critical thinking, analytical and reflective discussion skills.
