Selamat datang kembali di Middle School. I hope you all had an amazing holiday and are now ready for a great year ahead. I am excited to share information about our new Bahasa Indonesia program. We will integrate Indonesian classes in our Thematic classes, Physical and Literacy electives.

The Experiential Frame – Immersive Experiences

Here is the chance for students to connect in some physical activities and practice their Indonesian with local students. We will start our first block with Frisbee Terbaik (Ultimate Frisbee) as a language exchange. The following blocks we will also include Pencak Silat (Indonesian Martial Arts), Sepak Takrow and Balinese dance.

The Proficiency Frame – Language Learning and Beyond

There is a strong need for new students to build a core vocabulary in Bahasa Indonesia. For this purpose, Beginner level courses will be taught in a language learning context (Communicative Language Learning). Once the students have progressed beyond this, they are offered a variety of options to explore some Islands in Indonesian. They will have the opportunity to learn about geography, history and interesting unique culture of the islands.

Thematics – Embracing Bilingualism and our host culture

The Thematics offer a time to explore a theme with respect to Indonesia. This would largely be history, culture, and geography focused. As a component of the Bahasa Indonesian program, language would be an important element. Ideas for this include creating closed captions for relevant Youtube Videos, creating dual language short videos, and posters that embrace two languages.
