Beginning of the 2018-2019 School Year

Hello, Grade 5 Parents!

What an eventful first week we had! We undertook to implement the new launch structure by mixing the students around to meet as many of their Grade 5 peers as possible.  Though the new method was initially challenging, the students demonstrated their resilience and flexibility with the new rules and routines.

The launch of the school year is designed to promote a better understanding of everyone in each grade community.  To that end, the students engaged in several activities to get to know each other better by problem solving:

The students also recorded creative and silly pictures as well getting to know their way around new campus buildings on the photos scavenger hunt:

We ended the week with Grade 5’s Got Talent, a way to engage everyone in performances for the class.  Students worked together to create dance, speech, musical, and dramatic performances for their peers.  They all showed a willingness to get up in front of an audience and demonstrate their skills:

After the hard work that went in to Grade 5’s Got Talent, the students were rewarded with a trip to the river–fed pool for a swim and to kitchen, where they cooked up personal pizzas.

Next week will see many special events.  On Monday, the students will begin a project, completed in a medium of their choice, to help the Kembali raise student awareness of new procedures for drop off and sorting.  On the same day, the Green Science program will have its kick–off and the students will get their first glimpse of the new combined Science and Green Studies program.  On Wednesday Grade 5s will go to Green Camp for the day to do some river rafting and chocolate–making. On Thursday the students will learn all about Indonesian Independence Day.

We thank you for your help and support this week. If you need to contact us, please don’t hesitate.

All the best for a healthy and relaxing weekend!
