Updated: Mar 31, 2020
The temporary closure of our campus began today and distance learning will begin as scheduled on Wednesday, March 18th and continue through Friday, March 20th when the holiday break begins. Learning Neighborhood Heads have been and will continue to be in touch with parents and students about plans for distance learning.
We know there are a few pressing issues on people’s minds (including travel restrictions and visa concerns) and we will continue to share what we know as soon as we know it. Please read through for the latest.
Retrieval of Items from Campus
Students (and/or an accompanying parent or guardian) who need to retrieve personal items or learning materials from campus are welcome to do so this week. Please enter via the visitor’s gate following our previously established protocols for access to campus which include having your temperature checked and using hand sanitizer.
Visa Renewals and Visa Runs
Ibu Ika and her team continue to engage with and encourage the Governor of Bali and the Head of the Denpasar Immigration Office to consider the implementation of special temporary facilities so that families can renew or extend visas without needing to leave the island. Meanwhile, we have had several questions about visa runs and we understand that last the Singapore Ministry of Foregin Affairs has clarified that the Stay Home Notice (SHN) (Self-Quarantine Policy) which takes effect for certain arrivals to Singapore from 23:59 tonight “will not apply to travellers transiting in Singapore without leaving the transit area”. We understand this to mean that you can fly to Singapore and return without leaving the terminal, satisfying the Indonesian Government exit requirement and avoiding the SHN requirement. Please note that this is the best information we have at the present time and may be subject to change, so please double check before making any plans.
We understand that the issue of visas may be particularly stressful at this time and Ibu Putu Eka is making herself available directly for any queries. Please contact Putu at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Travel Plans, Travel Advisories and Self Quarantine Requirements
Our holiday break is scheduled for March 21 to April 6. We continue to advise all community members to carefully consider their travel plans as entry, exit and self-quarantine requirements for countries are changing daily. Please note that the UK Travel Advisory that we were previously following for guidance has been withdrawn by the UK Government as of March 13. GSB and other international schools in Bali are now following the US Centers for Disease Control travel advice which can be found HERE.
Please be aware of the following, noting that the numerical scale (Level 1, Level 2, etc) is the opposite in order of severity from the previously referenced UK Government scale:
If a community member travels to a Level 3 country from today onwards, we will require a
14 day self-quarantine upon arrival back in Bali before returning to campus is permitted. Self-quarantine means that you should stay at home for 14 days and practice social distancing.
If a community member travels to a Level 2 or Level 1 country, we will allow you to re-enter the campus immediately upon arrival back in Bali; however, should you have a fever of 38C or higher; or a cough; or shortness of breath, we will require that you self-quarantine until all symptoms have subsided and you have been afebrile (without a fever) for at least 24 hours.
If you have traveled to a Level 2 or Level 1 country and it moves into Level 3, we will require a 14-day self-quarantine upon arrival back in Bali before returning to campus is permitted.
We are so grateful for the calm and understanding response we have had from the community. We are meeting and assessing all inputs daily and will keep the updates coming. Please stay tuned for further information on the latest WHO advice on minimising your exposure and minimising the spread of the virus. We will provide an Indonesian language version of this as well, which you can share with anyone in your circle.
With love and care,
Green School Executive Committee
