Hello wonderful Primary Parents:
Well, you did it! Day one of Distance Learning with Green School.
I spoke with one parent who said “I was a PE teacher, using our pool for laps today”! A class meeting that ended with everyone in stitches as they tried to sing Happy Birthday, with most everyone out of sync because of the online delays. Then there was a clss of children delighted to be seeing the stuffed animal collection of one of their teachers.
Much to be grateful for. Also, it surely had its challenging moments for many of you. If you ended up wondering how you are ever going to do this…you are likely not alone. Remember that the first day is the hardest, in many ways, with establishing new routines and everyone feeling a bit out of sorts, up and down, navigating such a different way of learning and being.
Our counseling team is putting together workshops for you on Friday. Please also remember to reach out if you need to. We are here for you and your children.
When I went through my teacher training (about a million years ago), we read the works of John Holt, a pretty radical educator. I will leave you with some quotes from him.
With love and appreciation,
Kris and the Primary team
The true test of character is not how much we know how to do, but how we behave when we don’t know what to do.
Children learn from anything and everything they see. They learn wherever they are, not just in special learning places.
To trust children we must first learn to trust ourselves…and most of us were taught as children that we could not be trusted.
