Early Years Update (Week Beginning April 13)
Dear Lower School Parents:
“Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books that are now written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer.”
― Rainer Maria Rilke
Dear Early Years Families: As we all find our own version of trying to love the questions and find solace amidst the uncertainty, we are deeply grateful for your kind words and cooperative spirits. We truly are in this together. Since the official decision by the Indonesian government to close school until at least the end of May, all of our efforts, families and educators alike, to make Green School Everywhere an exceptional mode of education will have the opportunity to continue, with ongoing improvements and adjustments.
As per the email we sent you, we have ensured all of our Zoom meetings now require passwords for everyone’s safety. The email includes the passwords and the following document includes the Zoom links and meeting IDs, along with teacher emails.
Links and passwords will remain consistent.
We are aware that there have been some challenges getting onto Zoom calls. We know that it is painful to watch your child struggle when he/she is so eager to join the class. We will continue to improve and it will never be perfect. We have begun to use the waiting room feature for increased security. There is an opportunity here to build resilience. There is much talk about grit and this learning may present itself in unexpected ways.
For Child Protection purposes, we are not able to share any Zoom recordings.
We appreciate those of you who have sent some feedback Please know that a school-wide survey is in the making. REQUEST: As you have ideas to share, please send to leadership instead of teachers directly, if possible. Any improvements we make will be made across all the grades, so it works better if we receive it. Thank you.
COFFEE TALKS are a great way to share ideas and ask questions. Tuesdays 9am Bali time for Lower School. See Green School Essentials calendar for link.
INDEPENDENT TASKS - Teachers include tasks that we hope children are able to do independently. It can be frustrating for you as you navigate siblings, your own work and household reality. Let your classroom teachers know the tasks that “work”, so we can continue to improve. We do understand that our Early Years students will continue to need support and guidance from parents and we truly appreciate your time and energy as our partners in distance learning.
We want Green School Everywhere to be accessible, well, everywhere! As such, we are working on creating more opportunities during different times for our students around the world. This is particularly challenging for our Early Years teachers since we are all still living in Bali and working in this time zone. We are collaborating with our friends in Primary to work on some solutions for our students who are in other time zones to also have a chance to join live meetings, although it might not be with their homeroom teacher. Since our Specialist sessions will not be changing, we are asking for a video from teachers to share lesson ideas with everyone. If your child has not had the opportunity to check-in live with their teacher, please email me. As mentioned above, we cannot share Zoom recordings for Child Protection purposes.
We are working on reducing the amount of emails that you are receiving. The homeroom teachers will continue sending 1 daily email in the morning around 8:30 am with the daily lessons. These can also be found on the Green School Everywhere website but those will only be posted for 24 hours, Bali time, which is why we want to keep emailing them as well. Weekly specialist menus as well as EY's weekly activity menus will be uploaded only on the website.
Thank you very much.
