Greetings. Our Bahasa Indonesia classes have been focusing on preparations for our Early Years Indonesian Assembly. The Assembly will take place on Wednesday, November 15 at 9:00 AM in front of the pirate ship at the Kindy A playground. The Starlings are performing the Balinese folktale, “Go to Sleep Gecko” and each of the students selected which role they would like to play. We have geckos, fireflies, elephants, buffalo, rain and mosquitoes. Along with the drama, we will also sing two Indonesian songs. In Bahasa Class, Ibu Komang taught us how to make fidget spinners from baby coconuts and rubber bands. This was a toy that Ibu Komang made when she was a child and it was wonderful to witness her sharing her culture with the students. The students are also practising counting in Bahasa Indonesia and have started playing a new game to help them remember numbers, “Jam Berapa Serigala?” which is also known as “What Time is it Mr. Wolf?”
The Starlings are preparing their costumes for the Indonesian Assembly as well as the painted leaf decorations for the stage.
Our Cooking Class was inspired by Indonesian cuisine. We cook foods from all over the world and this week we made “pisang rai”. The children strengthened their fine motor skills by grating coconut, peeling bananas and slicing bananas. Ibu Komang melted palm sugar and helped the students create a batter from rice flour and water.
The Starlings visited the compost station which is located on the way to the bridge. They collected compost to bring to the planters in our garden. It was an amazing team effort.
The Starlings are excited to go on our first field trip to Bali Fun World on Friday, November 24. We will take the Bio Bus and hope to leave no later than 9:00 am so please try to arrive at school promptly on this day. Please pack a snack, LUNCH, full water bottle and a spare set of clothes. We plan to arrive back to school on time for the Assembly so you can pick up your child directly from the Sangkep after the field trip. Please return the permission slip if you have not already done so.
Thank you for your support and attention. We hope to see you soon and enjoy your weekend.
