Geckos – Last Week of School in Term 3

Dear Parents and Friends,

What an amazing time we had for these past 10 weeks of Semester 2. Seeing more relationships formed between the children touches our hearts and makes us happy. This is our last week of school before everybody goes on mid-semester break. We had so many fun activities and we eagerly want to share these stories with you.

One of our highlights this week was our adventurous journey on a field trip to Bali Bird Park and Reptile Park. We had a really great time even though so much rain poured down in the middle of our trip while we were eating lunch! Everybody was cheerfully getting wet in the rain. We met some new friends there, including Pak Bruno who led us around the Bird Park, and Pak Made who showed us all of the animals in the Reptile Park. The children watched two special shows at the Bird Park, including one that showcased birds of prey and is entitled “Basic Instinct”. The students had the chance to hold parrots as well as touch iguanas. We saw such an assortment of amazing animals, including snakes, lizards, crocodiles, tortoises, geckos, flamingos, pelicans, owls, ostriches and 3 baby komodo dragons. We imagine that all of the children slept very well that night after such a big excursion!

In Drama Class,  Ibu Marvelina read us a book entitled “Busy Town (Things to Find)”. Then we created our very own Gecko’s town inspired by that story. We decided what should we build in our town so we pretended to make a jungle and a cake shop by drawing with chalk on the floor. The students took on the roles of animals in the jungle and customers in the cake shop.

The Geckos had a chance to watch the show performed by the Kindy teachers in the Kindy Amphitheater next door. The story was derived from a book entitled “Who’s in Rabbit’s House?” written by Verna Aarderma. The children were fascinated by the play and it was amazing. Thank you to the Kindy teachers for inviting us to this magical show.

In P.W. Class, we played “Musical Hula Hoops” game and “What Time is it Mr. Wolf?”. In “Musical Hula Hoops” game, Pak Putu and Pak Garrett put yellow and red hula hoops around the Gym area. Then the children chose one hula hoop and had to stay inside it. When the music is on, they have to stay out of the hula hoop and can do any type of free movement. When the music stops, they have to quickly find a different coloured hula hoop and stay inside it.

On the other P.W. session, the children were challenged to walk by following the colourful lines at the Gym area. We also played a bean bag game. The children had to take one bean bag and put it on top of a cone. Try not to let it fall!

We had special visitors coming to our classroom on Thursday morning. One of our friends, Clementine, invited her Nanny and Pop to come as Mystery Guests. We were so happy having them read us stories and telling us about the animals they have on their farm in Australia. Thank you Clementine’s Nanny and Pop for coming and hopefully see you another time.

The Geckos would love to have more Mystery Guests at Term 4. Please contact one of the teachers or send us an email to geckos@greenschool.org if you would like to participate. It can be any activity, such as reading/telling stories, making arts and crafts, Cooking Class, celebrating a holiday or cultural tradition that is special for your family, etc.

A magical Music Class today took place around the Magic Crystal with Pak Dan, Pak Brett, and Ibu Dessy. It was really astonishing.

Look at how we went back to our classroom and singing happily on the way 🙂

In Yoga Class, Ibu Cherry set obstacle yoga courses. The class started with a yoga song “I am Yoga”. Then the children exposed some yoga poses during the obstacle course, such as tree, dog, cobra, plane, tree, and boat. Then we moved through a stretching yoga song.  The class then ended up with relaxing yoga.

We will miss all of you very much and we have so much gratitude for all of the love and care you have shown us. We happily welcome Ibu Ria as a wonderful part of our Gecko’s family. All of the children have had a chance to interact with Ibu Ria all year, as we always saw her at the playground. We had a great chance to have a play date with Ibu Ria one morning this week and she was so happy to start spending time with our amazing children. She also had the opportunity to meet many of you as well. Thank you Ibu Ria and welcome to our Gecko’s family. Thank you for your attention and support. Have a fabulous vacation and take care.

Best wishes,

The Geckos
