Dear Parents and Friends,
“TRICK OR TREAT”
Happy Halloween Early Years Community! The highlight of this week was the Halloween celebration. The students were super excited to welcome this day. The Geckos made some arts and crafts for Halloween decorations, including spiders and bats. The children also decorated their own bag in preparation for the trick-or-treating. They were really engaged during these activities and counted down to Halloween with excitement.
It’s the day!!!!!
We were so happy and excited to see all of the students and parents who came to school with their costumes and of course the smiles on their faces. The Geckos enthusiastically joined the parade around the E.Y. area as well as visited each station prepared by the parents which was very amazing. We are so grateful to the abundance of parents who were able to donate their time, energy, tricks and treats to make our celebration so memorable and amazing. After the parade, the Geckos did a science experiment with the teachers to make a “Magic Potion” made out of vinegar, soap, food coloring and baking soda. We could see how the vinegar reacted when it mixed together with the other components.
Special Day and Exciting Times
Happy Birthday Dear Starlie!!!
We were super excited to sing the Happy Birthday song for Starlie who turned 4 years old. She celebrated her birthday over the weekend. All of the Geckos happily sang for her and she received a special birthday crown. We wish you a very happy birthday Starlie!!
Another exciting moment that we also had was a “Mystery Guest” that read us a special story, “Go To Sleep Geckos”. Ibu Valerie, Cleo’s Mom, came as our mystery guest, and we were happy to be able to spend some time with her.
We are getting stronger, yes we are!! The Geckos were having an amazing time during the Yoga Class with our awesome Ibu Cherry. They were engaged and followed the instructions as well as practiced all the movements together. Ibu Cherry also prepared a Yoga Card game. When the music was on, the students started to dance and when the music stopped, they had to find a new yoga mat and model the movement on the card. They also had to find another card for the next round of the game. The Geckos keep practicing more and more poses, such as cobra, downward facing dog, chair, candle, butterfly, peacock, cat, cow, whale, shark, dolphin, gorilla, dancer, warrior 1 &2 , airplane, slide, child’s pose, and tree. They also followed the instructions through the ‘The Wheels on The Bus” as they do some movements based on the song during the warm up.
Shavasana (Yoga Relaxing Time)
Before we really end class, our yoga teacher will play some yoga relaxing music, as she invites all the Geckos to lay down and relax their bodies on the yoga mats. After the relaxing time, the Geckos helped the teachers to roll up the yoga mats and put them back on the self which is super amazing of them. Those mats are very heavy! Thank you Geckos.
“If you only read the books that everyone else is reading,
you can only think what everyone else is thinking.” ― Haruki Murakami–
Holding it nicely… please don’t read when we are walking…. Yes, it’s Library Time. The students were so happy to have a chance to help the teachers to return the books to the library, as they were showing their best listening and followed the teachers’ instructions.
“A-weema-weh, a-weema-weh, a-weema-weh, a-weema-weh A-weema-weh, a-weema-weh, a-weema-weh, a-weema-weh A-weema-weh, a-weema-weh, a-weema-weh, a-weema-weh A-weema-weh, a-weema-weh, a-weema-weh, a-weema-weh
In the jungle, the mighty jungle The lion sleeps tonight. In the jungle the quiet jungle The lion sleeps tonight.”
This song is becoming the favorite song for many of us. It is quite fun to sing along and follow the movements. Ibu Jamie and Pak Aris also brought some music instruments, such as shakers, wood blocks, angklung, and drums (djembe). Ibu Jamie read a story for the Geckos that was related to Halloween, including a cat, a pumpkin and a wizard. The Geckos also had a challenge as they had to match the instruments to the animals to have their turn to play, for example, drum for pumpkin, angklung for cat and shaker for the wizard. It’s a great memory game for the students. They also experienced about dynamics through the song, for example, if the song is soft and calm, they just played the instruments softly and it will get louder when the song is louder.
This week in Green Studies, Ibu Nicolene and Ibu Pera brought some really cool things to share with all the Geckos, including a crab, watermelon, eggs and some grains. The Geckos observed all of these things with their sense, including smell, touch and sound.
Butterflies can eat anything that can dissolve in water. They mostly feed on nectar from flowers but also eat tree sap, dung, pollen, or rotting fruit. They are attracted to sodium found in salt and sweet. The best part of this session was the butterfly hunt as the Geckos had a little adventure around the rice field to catch the butterflies and feed them with sweet liquid made out of sugar water.
Bahasa and Budaya Indonesia
Pelangi pelangi alangkah indahmu. Merah kuning hijau dilangit yang biru. Pelukismu agung siapa gerangan. Pelangi pelangi ciptaan tuhan.
We are continuing our Bahasa Indonesia class with Ibu Par and learning more vocabularies about the colors through songs as well as making an art project about rainbows. Pelangi means rainbow and here are the lyrics above to this popular children’s song. Please google it to find the tune.
Exploring about the life cycle of the butterfly, this week the Geckos learned the second part of the metamorphosis which is the tiny caterpillar. The children created their own caterpillars with pompoms, googly eyes, pipe cleaners and glue.
Thank you so much for all of your support. Thank you again to all the parents and children for making the Halloween celebration super AMAZING. Have a wonderful and relaxing weekend. See you for another fun journey on Monday.
