Geckos – Week 8 Term 1

Dear Parents and Friends,

Greetings! Every day is adventure day. Children learn best through experience and the nature is a great teacher. (Quote of the week).

The children learned to take care of their own belongings, especially their shoes. They put them together like “kings and queens” .

What’s gonna work? Team work!

This week, we started by having a Full Moon ceremony at the school temple. The children prepared the offerings in the classroom by making a cone-shaped offering called “Kwangen”. It was so amazing seeing them engage in making the offering and carefully put each flower one by one. The ceremony took place at the school temple next to the Heart of School with all the Early Years students and teachers.

During the thematic lesson, we discussed about people who help us at school each day. We met Ibu Fajar who always helps us to clean our toilet and our playground, and then we could say our big thank you to that Ibu. We also extended our gratitude to Ibu Pitri for always preparing the classroom so all of us can see the classroom ready and clean every morning and we all can play in it. To express the gratitude, we cleaned our classroom with wet fabric as well as cleaned some instruments we have in the class. The children were having a lot of fun doing it!

We also visited the Library and borrowed books to read in the classroom.

Our search for community helpers continued during a Nature Walk. We went to visit the security post at school in order to present our gratitude for keeping us safe at school. Some of the security guards just caught a small but long snake that day and they put it in a large bottle in order to release the snake in another location off campus. They showed us the snake. Luckily it was not a poisonous one.

In Green Studies Class, we planted more seeds in a half piece of long bamboo which was preceded by getting compost from the compost station. We also learned to take care of the surrounding environment by watering the plants and be gentle and kind to the plants and animals, as well as to people.

The children had some more fun during P.W. Class. We strengthened our muscles by playing in different stations that focus on different kinds of gross motor skills, for example, balancing, hopping, and jumping, as well as throwing and hitting (using rackets) and throwing bean bags from various distances into a target. Pak Garrett always set great pop music during the activity and it creates a great atmosphere for the children to engage more.

Ibu Par introduced new vocabularies about animals in Bahasa Indonesia as well as the animals’ sounds. Then we created an art craft to make a horse (kuda in Bahasa Indonesia) by using reused cardboard from cereal box and the letter H.

We would like to thank you for attending our recent parent-teacher conference. We appreciate you taking the time to meet with us, and we hope that our conference was able to provide you with some valuable insight into your child’s progress in school. We look forward to our continued partnership throughout the remainder of the school year.

If you have any questions regarding your child or our classroom, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Next week, on Tuesday October 2nd, the Geckos are going to go on a field trip to Peek-A-Boo, located in Sanur. We are going to take the school bus from school at 8.45 am or earlier if possible. Please pack a water bottle, a snack, lunch, pair of socks, and a change of clothes.

Have a great weekend. Thank you!

Best wishes,

The Geckos
