Who will protect the forest?

Last Wednesday during Jalan Jalan, the GS Green Generation crew met with Sophia Cheng. Sophia works as the PR rep for If Not Us Then Who, a global organisation that works to protect forests, and amplify the voices of indigenous people that deforestation and anthropogenic climate change is affecting. Sophia works on communication. As you may know, GS Green Generation is working on a series of podcasts, all related to raising awareness for climate change and indigenous people. This week, we’re producing our fourth podcast, inviting Sophia Cheng as a special guest.

Many of us do not know who or what we are affecting when we make our consumer purchases. Indigenous people in Indonesia are among those heavily affected by deforestation caused by conflict palm oil corporations who produce oil that is in so much of what we consume worldwide. These companies have a long history of destroying the fragile ecosystems of the forests in which Indigenous people live. If Not Us Then Who does an amazing job of sharing the perspectives of those negatively affected by these corporations. Creating awareness surrounding these issues aims to prevent the stripping away of trees, tradition, and humanity from millions of Indigenous people around the world. You may have caught Sophia and If Not Us Then Who at last week’s assembly. Also don’t forget to check out the website and browse through the videos. http://ifnotusthenwho.me/about/

Parents – Where To Sit During Break Time

Thanks again to everyone who has supported giving our High Schoolers space during break time. Just a friendly reminder that the space beside Freak Coffee and the downstairs warung (beside the Green School shop) is reserved for students during snack time and lunchtime.

Parents are requested to use the Upstairs Warung or Peace Garden during those times.

Snack Time: 1030am-1045am   Lunchtime 12:30pm – 1:15pm. Our High Schoolers need their space. Thank you!

Used Kitchen Utensils Required

Do you have any kitchen utensils that you don’t use but still work fine for the students’ kitchen? Last school year the kitchen was set up and it’s called Dapur Anak Alam (children of nature’s kitchen). It is located in the Heart of School (old primary art classroom).  It’s been frequently utilized, every week, for cooking classes by our students from primary to high school and also Kul-Kul Connection students. However, we have very limited equipment and would be grateful to receive any used kitchen utensils. If you have any pots or pans or any other kitchen utensils at home that you don’t use but still work fine, we are more than happy to keep them. Terima kasih banyak. For more info please contact Ibu Ida (ida.rahayu@greenschool.org)
