Last week of Term 1- 5B

Dear 5B Parents, Thanks for those who were able to make it on Friday for our parent teacher conferences! It was a busy, yet really nice day. We enjoyed chatting with you all and sharing the wonderful work the students have done this term, our goals, and their accomplishments. We are in our last few days of the term.

This week the students are wrapping up their Identity Thematic projects. The final part of our learning this term in Thematics involved the students creating ‘something’ that represented them. It’s wonderful to see their creativity. The students will share their projects and talk about the process involved in creating them with our grade 5A friends.

We are finishing up our final Math concept this term with negative integers. The students will have a term 1 assessment on all of the cool and challenging concepts they learned this term, on Wednesday. This is just a nice way to wrap up the learning in Math and prepare for Geometry next term.

As you know, this will also be my last week before I prepare for some big changes and welcome our baby girl. It has been a beautiful start to the year and I am so proud of the work our students have done so far. They are truly a wonderful group of kids- enthusiastic and eager to learn. We have set up the year and have the next term prepared so that we can maintain the wonderful things already in place and the learning next term.

We will welcome Pak Steven into our class this week as he gets to know the students before working alongside with Ibu Dina in term 2.

Here is a little info about Pak Steve- Pak Steve studied Archaeology at University and then, “as the world can only have one Indiana Jones”, he moved onto ESL teaching in Taiwan, London and Spain for some years before completing teacher training in the UK. He spent several years teaching in a Primary School in England before the opportunity arose to head the Primary ESL Department at an International School in Phuket, Thailand. In addition to his leadership role, he happily spent 6 years as a classroom teacher at the same school. Most recently, he completed two years working as a primary years homeroom teacher at an IB school in Suzhou, China. He arrived on the island just over a month ago with his partner who is also working as a teacher in Bali.

Thank you again for a wonderful Term 1 and I hope you all have a relaxing and restful break!

I will keep you posted as well on the new arrival.

Much love,

Ibu Cindy and the 5B Team
