This term, I had the pleasure of watching students in kindy through grade 4 use their imagination and creativity to design and build whimsical fairy houses around the Green School campus. Using only found materials, students carefully built tiny homes for fairies, as well as the wee jungle creatures who need shelter from the rain, like toads and butterflies. Students were eager to work together to collaborate on elaborate fairy mansions, as well as humble, hidden shelters, using stones, sticks, leaves, and other found materials. I hope these kids continue to build fairy houses at home, as well as at Green School, and that they will keep this activity in mind as an easy, fun alternative to screen time over the holidays.
Special thanks to Ibu Rachel for helping with this after school activity.
