May 12 2017 Issue

Dear Community, Our Primary School students weaved and created a May Pole yesterday to celebrate connection and collaboration, some of the most important elements of the Green School experience – a learning journey for the whole family. And if you were in any doubt about this, check out the many inspiring activities going on later this week and next week.

In other breaking news, we are happy to announce the graduation of some of our students from Quest University in Canada. Ira Warastri, one of our Local scholar students and Rasa Milankynte, both members of our first graduating class of Green School in 2013.  Now, four years later, they represent our first graduates from University. Several of their classmates will soon follow in their University graduation experiences in other parts of the world as well. We are so proud of you all!

The Earth Day Challenge is still on and if you donate before 2pm Friday, you are automatically in the running for a prize of gourmet delights! Thank you community for sharing and spreading the message wide and far, we are now at over $120,000! We were so privileged to have been selected by the Earth Day Committee to participate in this challenge and if we win, we score an additional $100,000 prize to go towards building our dream Community Innovation Hub. Read below more about how to contribute, support and win prizes. There is just one week left in the challenge, so let’s all do what we can to remain in 1st place as the top fundraiser and win!

Talent-scouting open mic activity

THRILLING THURSDAYS, our very own talent-scouting open mic activity continues to grow in audience participation and variety. This week we had a first ever. Cheeky Checkie, who normally is a key performer, presenter and showhost, amazed everyone with her self-taught tap dance routine. We look forward to more of the same.

Kul Kul Connection

“Siapa Lagi Kalau Bukan Kita?” Representative Visit to Green School

Did you know? The tag line “Siapa Lagi Kalau Bukan Kita?” is a call for action, it’s Indonesian words for “If Not Us Then Who?” and is a campaign that strives to share the stories of indigenous peoples as they struggle to protect their cultures and their forests.

We chose the tagline after “If Not Us Then Who?” organization because we believe  Kul Kul Connection and Green School are very much aligned with the mission of “If Not Us Then Who?” organization, so we use their message to support our T-shirt campaign which is all about empowering local youth to protect and preserve their environment. You will also continue to spread the message of ’If not us then who?’ in that we all have a responsibility to take action against environmental injustice.

Next week, we will have their representative visiting us here in Green School on Monday, 15th of May. So let’s welcome our guest and represent us by using your “Siapa Lagi Kalau Bukan Kita?” shirts! For those of you who do not have our shirts yet, you can buy some in Green Shop with 3 new colors available while supplies lasts!
