Parley for the Oceans Youth Leadership Conference – Ocean Uprise.
This was the first-ever gathering of students, scientists, activists, athletes, change-makers and innovators organised by Parley, the organisation that has only one client in the world – the Ocean. On the fabled North Shore of O’ahu in the heart of the North Pacific, our Student Ocean Ambassadors Program (SOAP) local scholars, Gede Davidson gr 8 and Hazel Devnanda gr 9 together with Pak Francis were invited to exchange knowledge and set up action groups in Parley talks and workshops. They not only learned how to take action on Hawaiian beaches but also to explore ways we can work together to accelerate solutions to the complex challenges that threaten our future. If the Ocean dies, we die. This message cannot be overstated but it was beautifully balanced by the ambitious ideas, creative solution-building and optimistic innovations brought forward by speakers and participants alike. Gede and Hazel together with Parley ambassadors, ocean experts, fellow young change-makers and systems-thinkers from around the world are ready to raise awareness and promote actions that will protect marine ecosystems and their inhabitants. Essentially, these SOAP stars are working to promote and protect our main source of oxygen and food, our life-support system, the Ocean. Stay tuned for their presentations and proactive solutions, coming soon….
