Greetings GS Families!
Green School High School is very excited to announce the opportunity for a small delegation of students to travel to Katowice, Poland, in November/December 2018 to take part in the global movement for a sustainable future at the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP24) and the preceding Conference of Youth. This will be the fourth year that GSHS has send a delegation of students to represent Green School and Indonesia at these events. This conference may be the most important annual event on the planet and Green School High School students have the opportunity–and indeed the ability–to make an impact.
Q and A:
How much will it cost? We still cannot confirm how much this year’s trip will cost because it depends on the number of students and teachers attending (to some extent). However, we expect it to be similar to last year (between $3000-$4000US). We know this is a significant amount of money. We hope to think creatively about some sponsorship/fundraising efforts; however, we cannot predict how much money will be raised.
What do I get for credits? The default credit for this project is either Environmental Action / Literacy. There will be many opportunities for students to document and write about their work. If students wish to advocate for a different credit, they should contact the faculty representatives as well as Ibu Melinda.
Is the after school mandatory? Yes. This is a big project – it is a big responsibility and we are depending on the students to drive this initiative. With the school’s support, and the students’ dedication, we have full confidence that this year’s experience will be rewarding and impactful.
How long is the trip? Approximately three weeks. The COP is a two week long conference with many side conferences happening simultaneously. The COY precedes the COP and usually lasts for three days. So, including travel time the trip usually lasts for about three weeks.
