This Week in Grade 1

Good Afternoon Families and Friends,

We have had another fabulous week of fun and learning in Grade 1.  We have enjoyed learning even more about our Healthy Bodies in our thematics, and in particular learning about fingerprints and looking at our fingerprints through magnifying glasses.  Next week we are going to begin our next thematic unit entitled ‘Hari Raya’  This will allow us to learn all about Indonesian celebrations and we can’t wait to begin designing and building our very own Ogoh Ogoh!

In maths this week we have been finishing off our learning on subtraction, completing our subtraction stories and practising different methods of finding the answer to subtraction problems.  Next week we will begin learning about time!  We can’t wait to make our own clocks and practise telling the time … it will we great fun!

In literacy we have been working in our levelled reading groups this week.  We are really loving reading at the moment in Grade 1 and all of the teachers want to say a big thank you to everyone who is reading regularly at home!

In the last week or so we have heard a number of reports of head lice around the school, including in Grade 1.  Please can you check your children at home and rest assured that we are also checking here at school.  Thank you very much for your assistance!

Our Student Led Conferences will be on the 9th of March and are coming up fast!  These are a really wonderful opportunity to share your child’s learning at school and is a highlight of the year here at Green School.  You should have received an email this week with the schedule for the day, if you didn’t, or if you have any questions, please contact your class teachers.  We are already beginning to get ready for this day and it will be great, please keep it free in your diary!

Please remember that there is no school next Friday, the 16th of February.

Thanks very much and have a lovely weekend!

The Grade 1 Team.
