With February nearly over, the V-Day Committee met once more to reflect upon this year’s V-Day event. As the biggest and most creative V-Day Green School has hosted to date, we consider it to have been a major success. We’ve received wondrous feedback from the community on the content of the workshops and on our performance of Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues. In all, we raised over 15 million rupiah (USD $1123) that will go to support the Bali Street Mums Project.
Many of you will remember Kim Farr, ex-Green School mum and founder of the Bali Street Mums Project, who graciously came in to speak at the V-Day assembly. She shared with us the personal, stunning stories of the street mums who went from begging on the streets to making beautiful, handmade crafts at the refuge.
To continue to support the mothers and children at the refuge, we are now organizing a toy drive to collect secondhand children’s toys that are in good, working condition to donate to the center. Starting Thursday, February 23, 2017, community members are invited to drop off toys suitable for children ages 1-17 at the welcome desk by the entrance of the school. Just to be clear, this is not an opportunity to empty out that old storage closet in your home! Kim and the Bali Street Mums team have asked for functional and clean toys that will be a source of joy and entertainment for the amazing children at the refuge center. Please be considerate of your donations! Contact firstname.lastname@example.org or any member of the V-Day Committee for further information.
