Week 6 & 7 in 4B

Dear 4B Families and Friends,

Happy World Bamboo Day (well, almost)! Hope you are all well.

We’ve had another fun fortnight in 4B, with adventures aplenty. Most exciting of all, we’ve welcomed another wonderful class mate to the 4B team. We’d like to take this opportunity to extend a very warm selamat datang to Jack and his family. We’re delighted to have you with us.

As for the adventures, here’s a brief look back at the week that’s been, as well as a few notes to help you prepare for the week ahead.

Full Steam ahead on the OROS (Operation Rain Or Shine) Project

Many hands make light work.

4B are really making an impact.

This week in Science, 4B were lucky enough to be invited to take part in the construction phase of the Operation Rain Or Shine Project and things are really beginning to take shape. The students showed wonderful team work to fill and tamp earth bags for use in the walls, returning to class dirty, tired and delighted after a morning well spent.

We’ve also:

  1. Turned the first soil in our very own Grade 4 garden project this week,

  2. Used our maths skills to discover our age in days (15 555 in my case, slightly fewer for the kids), and build our knowledge of place value,

  3. Continued our focus on ‘Learning about Learning’ by studying how our memory works,

  4. Explored Balinese etiquette and cultural practices,

  5. Added to our repertoire of spelling games,

  6. Started planning our community contribution project for the term,

  7. Introduced a Mini-Makers’ Space and Mind Games area to our classroom,

and generally had a great deal of fun (with much more to come).

While planning for the week ahead, here are a few notes for your diary:

Monday, September 18

World Bamboo Day – We’ll be having a little fun in class celebrating all things bamboo.

Wednesday, September 20

Parent Curriculum Workshop – This will be held in the ART room from 8:30am. All are invited.

BSSA Soccer Semi-Finals for our 9/10 Girls team. Please see the School Newsletter for more details.

And*, coming up soon:

Parent/Teacher Meetings – Friday, September 29 (next week). Please keep an eye out for further information as it becomes available. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Wishing you a wonderful week,

The 4B Team
