Welcome to Pre-K Starlings

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Pre-K Starlings! We had a lovely first week of school. We are excited about the school year ahead of us. It has been great to meet all of the wonderful families that are a part of our class this year. Thank you for sharing your precious children with us.

We would like to introduce our teaching team:

Ibu Russlee is our International Lead Teacher. She is from a small beach town in New Jersey, USA and lived in Miami, San Francisco, Japan and Nepal before moving to Bali. She has been teaching Pre-K at Green School for 6.5 years as well as Yoga to all of the Early Years Classes. Ibu Russlee is also the Deputy of the Early Years program. She loves swimming, traveling, cooking, photography, and reading. When not at Green School, she can often be found at the beach with her husband, Wayan, and their beloved daughter, Chloe, who will be 2 years old in November.

Ibu Krisna is our Indonesian Lead Teacher. She is from Mengwi, Bali and lives in Tabanan now. This is her third year in the Early Years program at Green School. She has taught in Pre-K Geckos, Pre-K Starlings, and Kindergarten. Ibu Krisna loves cooking, traveling, and playing with her family. She has a 3 year old son, Bimbim, who is currently enrolled in the Pre-K Geckos as well as a 1 and half year old daughter named Moe.

Ibu Komang is our Classroom Assistant. She has been working in Pre-K Starlings for six years. Ibu Komang is from Sayan and currently lives in Canggu with her husband and daughter, Niluh. Niluh will be two years old in December. Ibu Komang loves cooking and going to the beach with her family. Her favourite part of working at Green School is having the chance to play with the children.

Each day, we have different specialist classes which comprise our experiential frame of learning. We have Mindfulness lessons four mornings per week. This schedule is subject to change but here is our current specialist timetable:

Monday: Yoga Class (Ibu Russlee) & Bambajam (Pak Duncan) & Teman Teman (Grade 5B)

Tuesday: Library (Ibu Ayu)

Wednesday: Cooking Class (Starling Teachers) & Music Class (Pak Brett)

Thursday: Green Studies (Pak Brett)

Friday: PE Class (Pak Garrett) & Assembly

Please pack close-toed shoes for PE Class, such as sneakers or trainers. Please also remember to pack a hat for your child as each student is encouraged to wear their hat when outside.

Our first thematic unit is entitled, “My Body and My Five Senses”. We started the lesson by exploring our sense of sight. The students observed the people, animals, plants, and buildings that comprise our campus by going on walks and during Playground Time. The Starlings created vibrant paintings with watercolours to represent their own eyes. This week we are exploring the sense of hearing.

This Wednesday, Green School will be celebrating Independence Day. If your child has any red and white clothes, please wear them on Wednesday. We will be playing some Indonesian games on Wednesday afternoon with all of the Early Years children. School will be closed on Thursday, August 17, in observance of Independence Day.

On Saturday, there will be a ceremony for Saraswati Day at our Green School temple. Saraswati is the Goddess of Knowledge and Arts. All families are invited to attend, and it will begin at 9:00 am. Lunch will be served after the ceremony and please wear Balinese traditional ceremony clothes.

Please contact us if you have any questions. Thank you for your attention and support.

Best wishes,

Ibu Russlee, Ibu Krisna, and Ibu Komang
